The Veil Classes Tier List: Best Classes by Playstyle (Beta v1.0.0)

Compare The Veil classes by damage, access cost and playstyle fit. Includes tier rankings, race pairings, unlock requirements and the caveats before committing to an ultra class.

For most PvE builds, Gladiator is the best-supported pick: it deals excellent raw damage, fits standard combat, and pairs well with tanky races like Obelite. The big qualification: The Veil is in Beta v1.0.0, some class stats are still being confirmed, and balance patches are landing fast — treat every placement below as provisional. Duskwing is rated top tier by some players, but its exact stats and abilities are unconfirmed, so no definitive placement is given for it here.

Recommendations by need

There is no context-free winner; the right class depends on your alignment path, race and playstyle:

  • Raw PvE damage / clear speed: Gladiator. The safest S-tier pick and the default recommendation.
  • Summoner builds: Sky Sentinel (Offerings path, and the best-documented route to Sky Island via the Shimmering Sanctum gem NPC) or Cultist (Sins path). Sky Sentinel's kit is currently inconsistent across the game's own description and play: some accounts emphasize massive burn damage, others a summon-centric kit (wisp aura, summon heal/buff stomp, +10% summon damage/life, extra summon). Test its actual ability behavior in-game before committing.
  • Caster builds: Florist. Heavy damage, stun resistance, and it scales hard with Goblin — but all its damage is AoE-over-time that enemies can dodge, and its healing is minor.
  • Night play / Veilborne races: Hive Disciple. Excellent at night and synergizes with Veilborne, but its bonuses shut off during the day.
  • PvP mobility: Marauder only if you specifically want chasing power and mobility. Its Surge Aura (+15 speed, +15 swing speed, +20% stamina regen), Vanishing Gambit TP-strike and Flash Step dash are PvP tools in a PvE game, and one detailed on-camera playthrough describes little practical damage output — calling it the worst class in the game and saying it "literally nerfed my character." That assessment has not been independently verified by other players, so treat the C-tier placement as provisional.

Community tier snapshot (damage-first weighting: raw damage first, then utility and survivability):

* Marauder's cost is currently inconsistent between reports — 15 Offerings only in some tier lists, 15 Sins + 15 Offerings in others. Confirm with Dash in-game before farming alignment.

The class roster itself is unsettled: only four names — Berserker, GODSEEKER, FLORIST and sentinel — appear in an official developer video title. Gladiator, Duskwing, Sky Sentinel, Florist, Hive Disciple, Crusader, Marauder and Cultist are community-documented from on-camera creator footage recorded after the September 6 patches, so expect names and kits to shift with balance updates.

Evaluation method

Rankings weigh raw damage first (The Veil is PvE-oriented, so damage decides clear speed), then utility and survivability. Placements stay provisional while kit behavior is still being confirmed — Duskwing in particular gets no definitive placement until its stats are verified.

Before committing: access trade-offs

Classes come in two tiers: super classes, which can be mixed into hybrid builds, and ultra classes — one per character, whose abilities cannot be mixed with other class abilities, and after committing you cannot talk to other ultra trainers. Out of combat you can re-equip your ultra or swap super hybrids freely; the real commitment is accepting an ultra. Hybrid loadouts forfeit the pure class's stat buff: a pure Marauder keeps its +8% speed bonus and a pure Crusader keeps its heal and blind-resistance bonuses, but mixing in another class's abilities removes them.

Access gates:

  • Most classes require 30 Sins (chaotic path, from killing players) or 30 Offerings (orderly path, from good deeds like quests and jailing outlaws).
  • Expect roughly 1,000 silver paid to the trainer, plus a class quest of varying difficulty — the Marauder's is a timed 3-minute no-teleport run to Echo Hold (a bad idea at night), and Sky Sentinel requires killing five Angry Nimbuses that only spawn while a rain world event is active.
  • Sins can be farmed PvE via the Idol of Hatreds, found behind a bookshelf in the Weeping Crypt's cave.
  • Kharvos is the reset NPC for wrong ultra picks, but his trade cost is unconfirmed — do not pick an ultra expecting a free undo.

Race pairings that change class value

  • Veilborne (S, Legendary): +30% damage and +30% speed at full Weave stacks, plus a night-only skill; synergizes with Hive Disciple.
  • Underling (A, Rare): +15% Cast Damage, +25% Fire Resistance, +10% Regeneration — the strongest caster pairing, but its fire resistance hard-counters Sky Sentinel burn damage.
  • Goblin (A, Uncommon): +20% Luck, +10% Cast Damage, -10% Cast Cooldown — accessible caster start that pairs well with Florist.
  • Gemhead (A, Rare): +10 Summon Damage, +15 Summon Life — the dedicated summoner race, relevant to Sky Sentinel and Cultist builds.
  • Obelite (A, Epic): strong resistances and knockback at -10% speed — pairs well with Gladiator's tank-oriented style.

Decision guidance

Decide your class direction before heavily enchanting and investing in gear, since classes cost real currency (Sins or Offerings) unlike races, which reroll freely at the Stylist. Don't randomly stack Sins without knowing the target build — high Sins affect how good-aligned NPCs treat you, though PvE quest paths to Sins exist so you are not forced into player killing. Build prestige safely from boss kills rather than risky PvP, since death can cost prestige.

Damage-first guidance favors Gladiator for most builds; summoner players choose between Sky Sentinel (Offerings) and Cultist (Sins); casters suit Florist; Marauder only fits players who want PvP mobility and chasing power. Whether classes are locked to a character slot, and whether any class-roll mechanic exists, is not yet confirmed — check with trainers in-game before committing.
