The Veil Disease Era Progression: Verified Objective Order and Gates

Follow the Disease Era quest chain from the starting outfit quest to the final altar boss, with preparation requirements and the Primordial Era transition gate.

Quick answer: Disease Era is the first era in The Veil. Its first verified checkpoint is accepting the runner's outfit quest at the starting area, and its first unmet requirement at any moment is always shown by the active quest chain marker — follow it and complete the current objective to open the next one. The era ends at a point-of-no-return altar arena fight; after defeating that boss, a new door opens into the Primordial Era.

Era boundaries and starting requirements

Disease Era launched with the game's worldwide release (Beta v1.0.0). Progression runs through a quest chain with multiple boss encounters, ending at a point-of-no-return altar arena fight. Entering the door after that fight is the confirmed transition into the Primordial Era.

Note on scope: only Disease Era completion and entry into the Primordial Era are verified here. Later-era content (such as Sanguine bosses) is not part of this era's route and is not covered.

Objective sequence

Verified order of objectives from a complete Disease Era playthrough:

  1. Accept the runner's outfit quest at the starting area. Nighttime offers more mobs but drains sanity faster.
  2. Kill 30 mobs — the first lengthy quest, completed quickly with an active group.
  3. Enchant your weapon with a gem at the enchanter. The enchant result is random (e.g., poison). Price note: the launch-day recorded cost was 200 silver, with the launch patch lowering it to 100 silver — check the current in-game price before planning silver spending.
  4. Fight the first quest boss (about 1k HP) after enchanting your weapon. It uses axe throws and AoE, so weave between attacks.
  5. Reach the runner's camp objective — loot chests; NPCs may not assist.
  6. Travel toward Westfall and pick up the Ancient Bones quest. Consult the bestiary to identify ancient bones from the bone enemy fought earlier. A rework of the Ancient Bones quest has been announced, so expect this step to change.

Mid-era checkpoints and optional encounters

These verified checkpoints and encounters appear during the era; some are optional but progression-relevant:

  • The Puppeteer — early boss found before the first quest boss (about 4.5k HP); killable early with a group but not required at that point.
  • The Highling Titan — found en route; drops an important item.
  • Silverhold and nearby town — advance the quest chain. A suspicious-eye NPC dies when talked to and yields the eye item; chest and bestiary checks identify required materials.
  • Gem gacha vendor in the gem-head settlement — 500 silver per roll (optional).
  • Goblin Warlock — spawns at the glade during a goblin-army invasion event; killed with a crowd, drops not guaranteed.
  • Fester meat — elite item dropped by early bosses, used later to spawn a boss.
  • Scorch Basin — fire essence drops from mobs at roughly a one-in-three rate; you can be soft-blocked here waiting on the drop.
  • Smoldering Horn — used at a campfire to summon a two-phase (blue-phase) boss. Summoning items can be shared, so a boss can be killed twice for extra loot.

Encounter readiness

Before pushing through the chain, stock up on:

  • Silver for the weapon enchant (100 silver after the launch patch; 200 at launch — recheck in game).
  • Festered meat, required to summon the final altar boss.
  • Healing supplies — potions and help/aid items. (Four insanity potions were spent in a single mid-era fight in the verified run.)
  • Awareness that ranged attacks were effective against several era bosses at launch.

Groups can kill early bosses (Puppeteer, Goblin Warlock) with shared contribution, but loot is not guaranteed per player. The era is completable in a single sitting with a coordinated party. Full per-boss tactics are covered on each boss's own page.

Completion checkpoint

The era ends at a marked point of no return:

  1. Follow the quest marker to the "find a way down beneath..." descent area (a pylon teleport is available for travel).
  2. Lay the festered meat on the altar to trigger the final arena boss (about 9k HP). You cannot leave the arena during the fight — prepare healing (help/aid items, potions) before starting.
  3. Defeat the boss. It drops the era's legendary weapons (daggers observed) plus elite items.
  4. On completion, a new door opens; entering it transitions you to the Primordial Era.

To confirm era completion, check that the altar boss is defeated and the new door has opened — that gate is the era's final progression trigger.
