The Veil Puppeteer: How to Find and Beat the Secret Boss
The Puppeteer spawns at night in the Crumbling Ring with no summon item needed. Learn the route, fight it at range, and what drops it can leave behind.
The Puppeteer is a secret boss in The Veil that spawns naturally at night in the Crumbling Ring — no summoning item or key item required. Access is purely by route and timing: if you don't kill it before dawn, it despawns with no drops, so arrive early in the night and leave yourself a time buffer. The fight is very hard up close but players report it deals almost no damage if you stay far away, so bring a ranged weapon or ranged setup. It's soloable, though a duo makes it easier.
Location and access: route to the Crumbling Ring
- Enter the maze through the entrance marked outside by a broken carriage/wagon on your left; memorize it by its exterior look.
- Past the entrance, go past the wooden spikes — this confirms you're in the correct entrance.
- Continue until you reach a small grass patch. At the grass patch, go to the right side and keep going until you see a little door. Opening the door confirms you're going the right way.
- Continue, make a left turn, then a right turn, and keep following the path.
- Look for a small crack in the wall, almost like a crevice — another confirmation landmark.
- Keep following this route until you reach the Crumbling Ring, where the Puppeteer spawns.
Remember: the Puppeteer spawns only at night. If you don't kill it during the night, it despawns and you get nothing.
Preparation
Beyond the ranged weapon (the single most important preparation), enchanting your weapon is part of general early-era preparation before boss fights. No special item gates the encounter.
Attack cues and counterplay
- Ceiling hazard: things come out of the ceiling and blind you slightly. The blindness is minor and the attack doesn't do much damage — don't panic when your vision dims.
- Puppet minions: the Puppeteer spawns puppet minions you can use as an HP pack (heal source) each time. Treat them as healing opportunities rather than threats.
- Primary counterplay: fight at range. It deals almost no damage to players who stay far away.
Completion: HP, rewards and drop claims
The Puppeteer's HP pool is currently reported inconsistently: some players describe a base of 3K plus 1.5K per additional attacker, while the wiki FAQ lists a flat 4.5K — these may reconcile (4.5K as a two-attacker pool), but check the in-game health bar when you engage so you know what you're facing with your group size.
If killed before dawn, observed drops include unique weapon skills that are strong in the early game, an elite dagger seen looted in one clear, and a legendary called the Dice. The Dice's exact effect has not yet been determined by players who looted it, so treat its function as unconfirmed. Rare drops are never guaranteed — kill it during the night or it despawns with nothing.
Confirm the night spawn window and your route before committing to the approach, since area access, spawn timing, and attack behavior can change with patches.
