The Veil Prestige: What It Does and How Death Affects It

Understand how prestige raises your HP in The Veil, how to gain it, and what dying costs before you commit to your next progression objective.

Prestige is one of the main long-term power systems in The Veil and is described as part of the game's three stacked power sources: race, class, and prestige level. Every prestige level grants additional HP — commonly cited as +50 HP per level, with a creator example matching that scale (200 base HP rising to 250 HP at prestige three, gained at roughly one prestige level per two bosses killed at that stage). Over time, prestige makes your character much harder to kill.

Note that HP per level may not be a fixed value: the +50 figure and the creator's example both support that scale, but the game launched recently and receives rapid balance patches, so treat exact numbers as a snapshot and recheck them in-game.

How to gain prestige

There are three supported routes:

  • Boss kills (PvE) — the most reliable path; one player went from base to prestige three purely through bosses.
  • Consuming certain rare items.
  • PvP kills — killing other players can grant prestige. There is a conflict on the conditions: one player states it only works against targets at your prestige level or higher, while the general rule as commonly described is that PvP kills grant prestige without that restriction. Until this is clarified by a patch, assume the stricter version before picking PvP fights.

Death penalty: losing prestige

Death costs you prestige. A player with firsthand experience states directly: "when I die, I actually lose one prestige" — dying at prestige four drops you to prestige three. Death otherwise applies minor penalties but is not permadeath: you get a clean restart and keep the character. The exact loss conditions and magnitude beyond the observed one-level loss are not fully documented, and it is a reduction of your built prestige rather than a full reset — prestige is not a rebirth or reset mechanic.

Risk: high prestige makes you a target

Built-up progress attracts predators. Outlaws can attack anywhere outside the safe zone and specifically hunt players carrying prestige. The spawn town is safe, but once you leave it, outlaws and other players are a real threat. Guides recommend building prestige without taking pointless PvP fights just because someone walks past, and running in parties both for protection from outlaws and for safer prestige farming during boss kills and deep labyrinth runs.

Practical progression decisions

Because prestige is both your HP curve and something death can take away, it should shape how you run:

  • Treat nightfall and deep labyrinth pushes as real commitments, not casual strolls.
  • Farm prestige through boss kills and parties before risking PvP.
  • Avoid fights that risk a prestige drop for no gain.

The game is days old at the time of this information and receives fast patches, so recheck exact numbers after updates — the underlying systems (prestige as your HP curve, death as a prestige cost) are what will still shape your build after the next patch lands.
