The Veil: How to Get Sins (Verified Methods)
How to get Sins in The Veil: killing players, letting explorer NPCs die, and the Idol of Hatred crypt route — with requirements, trade-offs, and why a Sin may not count.
You get Sins in The Veil by killing other players (1 Sin per player kill), by letting explorer NPCs die in the maze instead of saving them, and by using Idols of Hatred found in the Weeping Crypt. Sins are the outlaw-system currency on the chaotic class path — most classes require 30 Sins, and they can make some NPCs refuse to talk to you (they can be washed at a shrine).
What Sins are used for
Sins gate evil classes and are one of two currencies on the class path: most classes require either 30 Sins (chaotic, from killing players) or 30 Offerings (orderly). The Marauder is a mixed case requiring 15 Sins + 15 Offerings, a timed 3-minute on-foot run to Echo Hold (no teleporting; avoid night), and about 1,000 silver paid to the trainer. Known Sins-side classes from creator footage include Gladiator and Cultist (the evil summoner).
Sins and Offerings are separate currencies on separate paths — do not treat them as interchangeable. Check with the relevant class trainer to confirm the exact current requirement before grinding.
Verified ways to earn Sins
Killing players (trade kills with a partner). Each player kill grants 1 Sin plus prestige. The most-cited method is trading kills with a partner (a friend or a stranger from the game's Discord, since both benefit): kill your partner, then they kill you back, repeating. Reported figures are estimates from a beta build: roughly 7–8 Sins per in-game day cycle (night lasts about 5 minutes, and doors close during night), with an efficient pair estimated at about 15 Sins per player in 10 minutes — though actual reported results were lower (roughly 9–11 Sins each over ~20 minutes with interruptions). Killing players also builds a bounty on you that drops Offerings when claimed — a side benefit, but slower than kill-trading for Sins. Note: developers have not ruled on whether kill-trading is permitted, and it could be nerfed or restricted; do not assume it is officially sanctioned.
Letting explorer NPCs die in the maze. Small explorer NPCs sometimes blow a whistle asking for help. Accepting and turning in their quest earns an Offering — but if you let the explorer die, you get 1 Sin. At night the mobs only aggro the NPC and kill it quickly, which one creator considers an efficient incidental farm (he reports about 5–6 rewards while farming this way).
Idols of Hatred via the Weeping Crypt.
- Go to the crypts and server-hop.
- Look for Stone Accords and Idols of Hatred, looting the rooms. Idols of Hatred give Sins when used; Stone Accords give Offerings and idols.
- Skip the elevator to the top room — it takes too long and drains sanity.
- If grinding Sins only, do not use Stone Accords on your character; stack them and trade them 1-for-1 for Idols of Hatred on the game's Discord (reported to save about an hour and a half). Idols of Hatred are farmable from a secret spot behind a bookshelf in the Weeping Crypt's cave, repeatable via server-hopping.
Choosing a method
- Kill-trading is the fastest reported option and benefits both players, but carries PvP risk: outside town, other players can attack you regardless of your PvP toggle (the toggle only works in the spawn area), and death costs 1 prestige — so kill-trading trades prestige back and forth.
- Explorer NPCs are repeatable anywhere explorers whistle, but it is incidental rather than a dedicated grind.
- The crypt/Idol route is repeatable via server-hopping but requires time and sanity management.
There is currently no measured comparison between kill-trading and crypt farming — creators report different favorites and different (estimated) rates, and all figures come from a beta build subject to weekly patches. Time each method yourself before committing to a grind.
Why a Sin may not have counted
- Prestige affects kill-trading order. The lower-prestige partner gains prestige from a kill, so kills must alternate based on prestige tiers for both players to keep benefiting.
- Doors close at night in the labyrinth, pausing kill-trading until day.
- Stone Accords are not Sins. Using them grants Offerings/idols — using them while grinding a Sins-only class wastes them.
- Turning in explorer quests grants Offerings, not Sins. Only letting the explorer die grants the Sin.
