The Veil Ancient Bones Quest — How to Find and Complete It

Verified walkthrough for the Ancient Bones main quest in The Veil: where to look, when it spawns, how to kill it, and how to confirm the quest completed.

To complete the Ancient Bones quest in The Veil, go to the deep end of the Veil at night, kill the enemy called Ancient Bones, and the main quest registers as completed immediately — there is no hand-in step.

Before starting: confirm the quest wording

The objective appears as a main quest titled "slaying ancient bone," and the quest text says the bones "are all broken." That wording leads many players to assume Ancient Bones is a boss or a rare creature that must be summoned. It is not — it's an enemy you have likely already seen. You can confirm its identity in-game via Information > Bestiary, where Ancient Bones is the first entry, and its bestiary note says it spawns randomly in the Veil. Don't go looking for a summoning item; the name alone doesn't imply one.

Reaching the objective

Follow this verified sequence:

  1. Open Information > Bestiary and check the Ancient Bones entry so you know what to look for.
  2. Wait until night time.
  3. Travel to the Veil and head into the deep end of the Veil.
  4. Bring sanity potions as a precaution before exploring.
  5. At least one Ancient Bones should spawn during the night — in one player's experience, they found one within about five minutes.

Completing the task

Kill the Ancient Bones. The fight can take a while, and the enemy may need to be chased down. Once it's dead, the quest completes.

Confirming completion

There is no separate hand-in NPC shown — the kill itself immediately registered as "main quest completed." If your kill doesn't advance the quest, that would be undocumented behavior rather than a known issue, so double-check your quest log state in-game.

A note on spawn rates: Ancient Bones is described as "pretty rare, but not the most rare thing ever." The player behind this walkthrough had personally killed only one at the time of recording but reliably found one per night in the deep end of the Veil — treat those timings as one player's experience, not guaranteed figures. No guaranteed drop or reward is documented, so don't count on one.
